Marcel's began as an idea between two friends. Jaime Pena with many years of experience in the Hotel/Bar business and a good friend, Steve Abate, with hospitality experience and personality plus.
They shared the idea of opening a neighborhood gathering place for a nice cold drink and a bite to eat. In April 1994 Marcel's Eating and Drinking opened it's doors in North Phoenix at 32nd Street and Union Hills.
Dubbed earlyl on by a loyal customer as "Your Home Away from Home" and the place "Where You Never Meet a Stranger",
Marcel's progressed through the years with the help of many hard working employees, including Kenny Dumas, Chef at The Point Hilton, chief cook and bottle washer at Marcel's, and Buck Blackwell who made Marcel's the #1 Karaoke Bar in the northeast Valley. Also the unforgettable Mercedes VanKotten, daughter of Dracula, as Jaime lovingly referred to her as, manager of Marcel's through all her years of college at ASU. There are many more great people who have been with Marcel's through the years too many to mention.
